Pelham, New York is the first town outside New York City in Westchester County on the Long Island Sound comprised of two villages, Pelham and Pelham Manor. A pedestrian-oriented town with a historic train station right smack in the middle, Pelham conveys a strong sense of community as its residents walk to the train and four neighborhood based elementary schools. Most residents also are within an easy walk of Pelham Village’s historic and charming downtown, featuring restaurants, shops and a range of services. The area is a collection of intact late 19th and early 20th century commercial architectural styles that has been recognized by New York State as qualifying for designation as an historic district on the National Register of Historic Places. Manor residents enjoy the proximity of a convenience retail area at the historic“Four Corners,”including a 1920s Tudor Revival group of stores built by Joe Kennedy and considered to be the country’s first “shopping center”with off-street parking.
